The 2022 Victorian Wine Show, an exclusive event held at the prestigious Parliament House, showcased Victoria's finest wines, celebrating the exceptional quality and craftsmanship of the state's wine industry.

The Annual Victorian Wine Show invites winemakers from across Victoria's 21 distinct wine regions to compete for the Wine of Show award. To qualify for the Victorian Wine Show, each wine is considered the Wine of Show in its respective region. Provenance’s 2021 Geelong Shiraz won Best Shiraz, Best Red Wine, and Best Wine of Show.

Provenance Wines, a distinguished winery based in Geelong, was chosen for the highly coveted Premier's Trophy, surpassing 11 other finalists. This decision was made by a panel of industry experts, including renowned winemakers and sommeliers.

"Best of the Best" The Premier’s Trophy, launched in 2017, gathers together the Best Wines of Show from twelve regional wine shows in Victoria. The winning wine is awarded the Premier’s Trophy. The Provenance Shiraz 2021 took out the 2022 Trophy.

Respected Wine reviewer, Campbell Mattinson, awarded the wine 96 Points (Gold) in the Halliday Wine Companion, saying “An exquisitely beautiful wine. Complex by nature, svelte by design, seductive in its own way. Musk, black pepper, blueberry and ripe plum flavours roll across the palate in an even wave, pulling tannin with it for sure but mostly, at every step, inspiring pleasure. You have to admire the application of oak here – it's so perfectly judged, it's the perfect seasoning. But then everything about this wine is deft, in the best of ways.”

Provenance winemaker, Sam Vogel, describes the 2021 Geelong Shiraz as “An attractive deep violet colour in the glass. Lifted fruit aromas of liquorice, black olive, and allspice speak of the vineyard rather than the winemaker’s toolkit. When tasted, powerful fruit flavour matched to medium weight is cut with a fine textural tannin input. The long in flavour finish is matched to fresh natural acidity that completes/balances the wine. An age-worthy refined wine."
