Vineyard
This single vineyard wine is grown in the ultra-cool Drumborg sub-region of Henty, in south-west Victoria. It is planted in degraded volcanic buckshot topsoil over a permeable cracking red clay base. The vines are VSP-trained and grow with moderate vigour. Gently grey and dappled light from typically overcast conditions enables long ripening periods and tremendous flavour. Far enough inland to experience continental-like cool nights, the site is also significantly influenced by the cold mass of the Great Southern Ocean to the south-west.
Winemaking
In 2025, the Henty Riesling was hand-harvested on 19 March, then chilled overnight to help lock in aroma and natural acidity. The fruit was whole-bunch pressed to tank, with the free-run and pressings kept separate to preserve purity and control texture. The free-run juice was allowed to settle clean before being carefully racked, then fermented slowly at cool temperatures in stainless steel to highlight the site’s citrus lift and fine mineral line. After fermentation, the wine was retained in tank on light lees to build a subtle creamy mid-palate without sacrificing tension, before being prepared for bottling under screwcap. 12.5% ABV
Tasting Note
From the ultra-cool Drumborg corner of Henty, this Riesling leans into what the site does best: perfume, line and mineral drive. Lifted aromatics of citrus blossom and lime sit over ripe apple crunch and a gentle fennel/herbal note, with a clear stony edge. The palate is taut and precise, finishing chalky and saline, but with a measured mid-palate texture that keeps it generous rather than severe, a tank-raised, light-lees approach that supports the natural freshness. Built to drink beautifully young, and to gain complexity over the next few years.
