2024 Golden Plains Rosé

Vineyard
Established in the late nineties, this Pinot Noir vineyard is found in the Moorabool Valley sub-region of Geelong, southwest of Melbourne. The vineyard is planted in an amphitheatre-like small valley with a south-east through south-west aspect. Planted in a mixture of grey loam and basalt-derived soils over clay, the vines grow with moderate vigour.

Growing Season
Following a dry 2023 winter, the Geelong region experienced an early budburst, which persisted throughout the season. Early vine growth was generally good, and vines were well set for flowering. Conditions became drier in late spring into summer, with well below average rainfall from flowering to harvest. Grape and wine quality was good to excellent, with some variability depending on location and water.

Winemaking
Our 2024 Rose combines the saignée Pinot Noir, minerality of Chardonnay, and the aromatic lift of Sauvignon Blanc. Hand-harvested fruit is whole-bunch pressed to a stainless tank, for a low-temperature primary ferment over an extended period, maintaining the fruit flavour. Small amounts of Pinot Noir juice were saignéed in at different times, concentrating our Pinot Noirs and creating our Rosé. After fermentation, the wine was matured on its yeast lees to enhance texture and complexity before being lightly filtered and bottled.

Tasting Note
A gorgeous pale salmon hue and delicate aromas of ripe red berries, fresh apple, and a hint of inviting florals. The palate is lively and fresh, carried by a bright streak of natural acidity and a silky texture that lingers effortlessly. Juicy notes of melon, blood orange, and zesty lemon make each sip crisp and refreshing.
Pale, dry, and suitable for all occasions.
