Magnums are bottled under cork with a black wax seal.
Vineyard
Grown at Scotsburn, 1.5 km from Mt Buninyong, southeast of Ballarat. On a windswept ridge with 500-million-year-old Ordovician period soils. Part of an old seabed made up of clay and sandy quartz breccia along with sandstone, mudstone, and siltstone. At 500m elevation, warm days are followed by cold nights that always ensure high levels of natural acidity.
Tasting Note
Fragrant, lifted aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry and spice are matched to a complex earthy bouquet. Red and blue fruit characters across the mid and back palate are deftly complemented by the integrated fine tannin and acid line. The long finish is refreshing, pure and intricately detailed.
Independent Review
"Hand-picked fruit, 50% whole bunches, open ferment with indigenous yeasts, 11 days on skins, matured 10 months in French barriques (25% new). This Ballarat pinot noir is one cool customer, slow to open, not showy in the least, but with a quiet confidence. Opens wild and herbal, with redcurrant, forest floor and earth. It is beginning to meld, relax and open on the palate with vanillin oak in support. Give it time.' 93 Points
