On Saturday, 31st of November, our 2021 Geelong Nebbiolo was awarded the Trophy for Best Other Red! It is always an honour to take home a prize, so it was doubly nice also to be awarded the Wine of Provenance for our 2015, 2018, and 2023 Geelong Shiraz.

The Wine of Provenance award carries special significance, as it recognises winemaking excellence over a broad timeframe. Some wines are well behaved from the moment the vineyard awakens from its winter slumber; in other years, it takes all the skill and art to capture a wine that represents the season, the site, the region, and the house style.

The key to our Geelong Nebbiolo is the classic dry autumn conditions, which enable the physiological ripeness of the skins and stems—tempering the savoury nature of the Nebbiolo grape, which is known for its high levels of natural acidity and bold tannins. As each season doesn't always provide the perfect conditions required, our Nebbiolo is released infrequently. The previous vintage was 2019, and the next vintage we have bottled is 2024.

Geelong Shiraz is a distinctive style, with prominent spice carried from the aromatics through to the palate. A balance of white pepper, woven through the pure blackberry fruit, subtle violet florals and naturally fresh acidity, result in a medium-bodied but full-flavoured wine. Due to the complex spectrum of aromas and flavours that originate in the vineyard, the winemaking becomes more about showcasing the essence of the site and seasons. To best express these traits, there is no new oak used in the production, and the choice of used larger 500L Puncheons gives the cool climate tannins time to melt into the body of the wine. Ultimately building a balanced wine that is ready to drink on release, but also ages gracefully, a true marker of a great wine.

Both of these releases are limited in availability and will be appreciated by even the most discerning of wine lover.
