PROVENANCE
2010 Geelong PINOT NOIR
VINEYARDS
Our home vineyard in Geelong is located just 5km north of the city boundary on the edge of the Moorabool valley. Planted in 1999 on a steep east facing slope that runs down to a valley floor, various Pinot Noir clone and rootstock combinations in this vineyard are testament to the simple fact that the terroir rules. Amazingly nobody knows what clones and rootstocks were planted where! but it's very clear where the best fruit comes from. That's right everybody pull down those homes with the views you're going to have to build in the valley, the slopes belong to the vines.
HARVEST & WINEMAKING
Good early rains and a warm spring conditions led to a quite relaxed growing season. Rain at veraison was welcome and finished the crop off well. Winemaking included 32% wholebunch in small open fermenters, warm (up to 33C) indigenous fermentation and malolactic fermentatiojn in 228L barriques.
TASTING NOTES
APPEARANCE
Brilliant, crimson red.
NOSE
Classic Geelong Pinot Noir aromas of citrus zest and an earthy mushroom like character are well supported by elegant french oak.
PALATE
Elegant yet rich this wines flavours are true to aroma but it's the velvety texture that lifts it to another level. The structure supports the flavour but the key is the balance between fresh elegance and silky plushness. We love it!
FOOD MATCHES
Peking duck, roasted lamb.
